Ma, Xiujunis an associate professor in the Department of Machine Intelligence, School of EECS. He obtained Ph.D. in Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS, Peking University in 2002. His research interests include GIS, Location-based Services Multi-agent modeling, Big data management systems. He has co-authored a textbook on Spatial Databases in Chinese (2004), Geographical Information System (Science press 2001). He has published over 40 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and workshops. He is an associate editor of Journal of Information Security Research (2015-2018). His current research projects have been supported from the NSFC, National High Technology Program (863 program) etc.
His research achievements are summarized as follows:
1) Spatial Data organization and indexing techniques: One major research topic in spatial data management field. He proposed some new data representation methods and indexing structures to facilitate the organization of complex spatial data objects, which can efficiently support the spatial query processing and spatial data mining applications.
2) Multi-agent based modeling: He focused on the agent based techniques for LBS, smart city and IoT applications. He proposed new solutions for Meta Searching and interoperations among heterogeneous systems.
3) Spatio-temporal data mining techniques: Mobility makes huge amounts of spatio-temporal data and spatio-temporal data mining techniques is used to discover behavior patterns for location-based recommendation system. He proposed some new data mining techniques which integrate time-geography theory and collaborative filtering algorithms for location-based recommendation systems. These methods can improve the Mobile Internet applications and user experiences, such as LBS advertisement, Local search and SNS recommendation, etc.
